When a weld fails, so does the equipment around it. That\’s why the best welding starts with engineering, not just a torch. At Cliff\’s Way Welding, a division of Cliff\’s Way Engineering, we combine design know-how with hands-on fabrication. The result is components that work on paper and on the shop floor.
Certified welders for code-critical work
Many projects demand more than a neat bead. They need welds that meet strict international codes. Our welders are certified to:
• AWS D1.1 (structural welding)
• ASME IX (pressure equipment welding)
• ISO 15614-1 (welding procedure qualification)
We offer coded welding with no thickness limit on S355JR+AR structural steel, giving you confidence that every joint is up to standard.
The right process for every material
Not every job suits the same technique. We match the process to the material and application:
• MIG welding (GMAW): CO₂-shielded welding for medium to heavy fabrication
• TIG welding (GTAW): precise, clean welds on stainless steel, aluminium and delicate parts
• Arc welding (SMAW): versatile welding for construction, repairs and heavy industry
• Plasma cutting: portable cutting up to 30mm plate
Fabrication, repairs and more
Beyond welding, our team handles the full job from concept to finished part:
• Light to medium steel fabrication and custom structures
• Sheet metal work, including panels, covers, brackets and housings
• Conveyor and palletising systems: design, fabrication and repair
• Jigs, fixtures and tooling for production lines
• Repairs that restore worn parts and extend equipment life
• Design and drawing support using advanced software
Proven in harsh industrial conditions
Our work is built for demanding environments. For one of our largest customers, we manufacture a full range of surface aerator components for wastewater treatment, covering high-speed, low-speed and floating aerators. These parts run around the clock in tough conditions, and they\’re built to last.
Why choose Cliff\’s Way Welding?
• 30+ years of engineering experience behind the business
• Engineering-led fabrication that considers tolerances, structural integrity and reliability
• Certified, coded welding for compliance-critical projects
• One team for design, drawing, fabrication, repair and tooling
The division is led by Eric Bertillon, a mechanical engineer with over 15 years of industrial and fabrication experience.

Horizontal and vertical machining are the two main CNC milling layouts used in toolrooms and production shops. Both cut metal with a rotating tool. The difference is spindle orientation — and that changes chip flow, fixture design, cycle time and cost per part.

Vertical machining

On a vertical machining centre (VMC), the spindle points down. The tool approaches the workpiece from above.

Best for:

  • Plates, covers, moulds and general 3-axis work
  • One- or two-face jobs
  • Shorter runs and jobbing shops
  • Setups that need easy visibility and simple fixturing

Advantages: lower machine cost, easier programming for many parts, quick changeovers.
Limits: chips can sit on the part, and multi-face work often needs extra setups.

Horizontal machining

On a horizontal machining centre (HMC), the spindle is sideways. Parts usually sit on a tombstone or pallet.

Best for:

  • Production volumes
  • Parts that need work on several faces
  • Heavier cuts and better chip evacuation
  • Unattended or pallet-pool running

Advantages: chips fall away, multiple sides can be cut in one clamping, higher spindle utilisation.
Limits: higher capital cost and more fixture planning.
